Dr. W. David Pan is an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 2002, and his M.S. degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1998. His main research interests are in computationally efficient techniques for image/video compression, highly efficient distributed source-coding techniques, and their applications in information assurance and pattern recognition.

He is the recipient of ETRI Journal Paper of Year 2006 Award for one of his journal papers that was published in June 2006 issue of this international journal. He received the College of Engineering Outstanding Junior Faculty Award from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2008. He was awarded the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Summer Faculty Research Fellowship in 2008. He has over 60 refereed journal and conference publications. He is a senior member of IEEE.
