About Eta Kappa Nu

Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) is an international honor society for Electrical, Computer, and Optical engineers.  Membership in HKN is highly regarded within the technical industry.  Employers know that HKN only inducts the best of the best among students and practicing engineers.  HKN was founded in 1904 by Brother Maurice Carr and nine other brethren to recognize the achievements and good character of students in the nascent field of Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  There are now more than 200 chapters worldwide. Membership in HKN is a high honor, and is open to qualified juniors, seniors, and graduate students.  Juniors must be academically ranked in the top fourth of their class.  Seniors and graduate students must be ranked in the top third of their classes.  Additionally, any electrical, computer, or optical engineer that has made significant contributions to their chosen field may be considered for membership.  In addition to superior scholarship, candidates must also have upstanding character.  The local chapter of HKN, in conjunction with the EE/CPE/OPE faculty, reviews eligible candidates and issues invitations to all who qualify.
